Microcontrollers & Microprocessors
H
itachi's 16bit embedded controllers include CISC and RISC architectures for traditional and emerging applications. The product line emphasizes devices that facilitate programming in High-Level Languages (HLLs), while delivering high value and high performance at low power.

Hitachi has the widest offering of flash-based Micros in the world. Version start at 32KB and go up to 512KB for program storage. These Micros can be programmed on a standard Flash programmer or in-system. This on-chip flash improves speed, reduces power consumption and board space.

H8 series - This devices have an 8-bit/16 bit general-purpose register architecture and provide high integration and up to 20 MIPS performance. The register set is orthogonal to allow efficient C compiler object code generation, typically a 15% premium over assembler. Processors range from the 8 bit, 5Mhz H8/300 to a 16 bit , 20Mhz, single cycle, H8S device.

H8300L series features on-chip memory and peripherals single chip embedded applications. Intergated VFD and LCD controllers version are included with no external addressing. Typical devices feature 8bit : 8ch A/D, 32K ROM/OTP/FLASH and 1K RAM. The address space is 64KB.

H8/300H series is object code compatible with H8/300 and H8/300L chips, but has a 16 bit architecture, 16MB linear address space and 1.8 MIPS performance. The registers are extended to 16 bits and the internal buses are all 16 bits wide.

H8S series is a 16bit, RISC-like embedded controller architecture achieves record performance (benchmarking 2.5x faster than the H8/300H architecture) with lower power dissipation; it provides the functionality and speed for leading-edge applications, while preserving H8 software investments

SuperH - 32bit RISC Devices - Forming the top end of Hitachi's MCU/MPU product line, the 32-bit SuperH™ RISC engine series delivers the industry's best combination of cost:performance, power:performance, and integration. The core is a load-store architecture and features a 16 bit fixed instructsion length, sixteen 32 bit general purpose registers with instructions execution in 1 clock cycle through a 5 stage pipeline. There is a built in MAC (Multiply-Accumulate) for DSP-Like functions.

SH-1 series of micros achieves 16 MIPS at 20MHz. With on-board ROM/RAM and the industry's highest level of peripheral integration for low system cost, it is ideal for power-sensitive embedded applications requiring RISC performance.

SH-2 series of micros add on-chip cache and up to 512KB of flash program storage. There are a myriad of peripherals available for SH-2 processors including feature-rich timers, A/D convertors, serial ports, DMAC and more. These devices are excellent for motor control, engine control and many intensive real-time embedded systems.

SH-DSP series of processors feature a 16 bit fixed DSP engine along side the SH-2 and SH-3 cores up to 133 MIPs. The instruction is decoded and either sent to the DSP enginer or the SH engine. This reduces the timing problems associated with independent multiple cores. Also, the MIPs can be adjusted on the fly to the DSP or SH core, depending on the immediate requirements.

SH-3 series is capable of 133 MIPS at 3.3V and 143 MIPS/W, with operation down to 1.8V. With built-in memory management and real-time clock make it WindowsCE® ready. There are several versions and companion chips that are highly integrated to make PDA and handheld applications cost effective and small.

SH-4 (SH7750) is a 64bit Superscalar core with a 3D vector graphic engine. It features a 64 bit internal bus, 2GB address space, 16KB D-cache/8KB I-cache MMU, RTC, DMAC, serial, timers, SDRAM I/F32-bit MAC, DP-FPU all in a 208-pin QFP/256 ball BGA package. SH7750, twice as fast as a Pentium II delivers 1.4GFLOPS of floating point performance.
