Renesas Electronics Introduces Industry’s First 32-Bit Microcontrollers with True Low-Power and USB Connectivity

Renesas Electronics Corporation has introduced the first in its RX100 Series of microcontrollers (MCUs) – the RX111 group, which is the market’s first 32-bit MCU to feature True Low-Power™ as well as fast wake up, zero wait state flash, multiple safety functions and integrated USB 2.0 host, device and on-the-go (OTG) support. The new device group extends the True Low-Power™ features of the Renesas 8-/16-bit RL78 MCU Series to the 32-bit product line up, offering greater device scalability. Designed to support a broad range of markets, the new RX111 devices deliver a combination of ultra low power consumption, on-chip connectivity and superior performance at attractive price points for low-end 32-bit embedded applications including mobile healthcare, smart meters, sensors/detectors, and industrial and building automation.

“Designing for ultra low power, connectivity and robust performance is essential as more applications, such as mobile health and smart energy, move toward a smaller energy footprint,” said Peter Carbone, Vice President of Marketing, Renesas Electronics America.  “Leveraging Renesas’ proven process technology enables our RX100 Series to achieve a leading position in these areas, bringing True Low-Power to the 32-bit world, and providing state-of-the-art communications, flexible power management and miniaturization to support these growing “Smart Society” needs.”

Renesas’ True LowPower capability offers designers the lowest possible power consumption across the entire temperature and voltage range, including all peripherals and Flash memory, while also providing maximum flexibility with multiple operational and sleep modes. This allows for the lowest possible power consumption for the user’s application environment.  Read More
